The Creative Media Practice course centres on art, design, and creativity, teaching Filming, Editing, lighting, 3D production, concept development, and digital content design. You will work in #THEPLATFORM, our state-of-the-art digital space, using top-tier Intel i9 and Nvidia 2080ti machines. Or Macs, ideal for creatives aiming to excel in the film, games design, VFX, and animation industry. This program also covers essential media skills, including film, TV, sound, and digital media, fostering innovation through hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and critical evaluation.

  • What you will study

    This qualification is focused on practical assignments addressing five mandatory learning outcomes:

    • Informing ideas
    • Problem solving
    • Technical Skill
    • Professional Practice
    • Communication

    This includes two units:

    • Skills Development - you will explore key media practice fundamentals, learning how skills integrate to generate developed outcomes
    • Creative Project - you will apply these skills to a creative project, demonstrating your ability to self-direct a response to a brief from inception to completed product

    Within Skills Development, you will have three projects which will be focused on different software which includes but is not limited to:

    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe After Effects
    • Adobe Premiere
    • Adobe Substance Painter
    • Autodesk 3DsMax
    • Autodesk Mud-box
    • Unity Game Engine
    • Microsoft Suite

    Within Creative Project, you will have the opportunity to flex your muscles and creative endeavours, preparing you for year 2.

  • Entry Requirements

    4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C), including English and Maths, or a Level 2 qualification (Merit or Distinction) in a related subject. Note: for skills-based qualifications you might need the skills at Level 2 in order to enrol onto the Level 3.

  • Assessment

    Assessment is through coursework that is internally assessed and externally moderated by an examiner.

  • Moving Forward

    This course will enable you to progress to further study such as:

    • Another Diploma in a complementary sector
    • BTEC National Extended Diploma in Creative Media Practice
    • An apprenticeship
    • Employment in the creative industries

    This qualification attracts UCAS Tariff points and meets the admission requirements for most relevant courses. You should always check the entry requirements for degree programmes at specific higher education providers.

  • Cost and Loans
    • The Advanced Learner Loan is available for this course for 19+ students
    • Course and material fee may apply (Trips)
    • Hard Drives or USB are mandatory for backing up and saving work
    • Students are expected to have a home computer, if you don't laptops are available to loan from the LRC
