Louise Wolsey and Sarah Newman, both from Bromley, signed up for the challenge in October last year in support of Dorothy House Hospice and the Maypole Project. Months of training and fundraising followed in preparation for the big day.
Colleagues at the College supported the pair by organising an ‘Indian Supper Club’ evening last week at BR6 Restaurant - which was attended by 90 guests and celebrity chef Asma Khan. Ticket sales and a raffle held during the evening raised over £2500.
Louise completed the iconic marathon course in 5 hours and 19 minutes. She said: “It has been a tough few months of training and the event itself was a real challenge. However, it has all been worth it and I am delighted to have raised so much money for Dorothy House Hospice. I am hugely touched by all the support Sarah and I have received from our colleagues and also grateful to a number of local businesses for donating raffle prizes.
Sarah, who clocked a finish time of 3 hours and 32 minutes added: “Running the London Marathon has been one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The crowd was amazing and it really was London at its very best. I am delighted to have raised so much money for the Maypole Project - it’s such a fantastic local charity and helps so many families. Thank you so much to all my friends, family and London South East Colleges colleagues who have been so supportive.”
