Students from media, animation and art were involved in organising the event which ran from 22 June to 26 June. Mary Campbell, Senior Lecturer Creative Arts, said, “We always enjoy working with the Exchange, it’s a really beautiful venue for our students to display their work. A huge well done to all our students – not only did they work hard to produce the artwork, but they have also been invigilating on a rota, communicating with the public and even selling their artwork.”
The Exchange is a community-owned building that has recently undergone a £3.6m makeover. This meant the students had to think about how to display their pieces without installing any permanent fixtures. The majority of students’ artwork on display were pieces based around the students’ collaboration with Transport for London, 'Turn London Purple', in celebration of the new Elizabeth Line. An anonymous visitor wrote – “Amazing to see the characters of each artist displayed in each piece. The digital side also expressed this too.”
Art & Design Level 3 student, Layla Tiller-King, said, “It gave an insight into how an exhibition is run and even gave me the opportunity to sell my artwork.”
Orsolya Toth, Media Lecturer, says, “We have experienced extended engagement and support from our students. They’ve gained first-hand exhibition experience and received much-appreciated feedback from the public. It’s allowed the department to start new collaborations which have already shaped our next academic year – we’re all excited.” Thank you to all our creative arts students who participated and good luck to those in their final year and are leaving us to take their next steps. We’re looking forward to welcoming new, talented students in September.
