Dylan has always had a keen interest in all things IT and right from the outset of his course, his goal was to secure an IT support position with a top company. He says: “The sector has become incredibly competitive over the years and a vast majority of support and help desk jobs require a minimum of one year’s work experience.

“My course here at the College has enabled me to work on website build and basic software coding projects. I’ve learnt many valuable skills that I know I’ll make good use of. I am determined to work in the IT industry and knew that to achieve this, I would need to strike while the iron was hot. I couldn’t bear to think that I would end up working in something non-IT-related. To this end, I discussed the possibility of applying for an apprenticeship with my tutor Eric and he was very encouraging. Soon after this, the College made me aware of an opportunity with Würth UK.

“I worked hard on putting together a suitable and impressive application and took part in a pre-screening interview with Lavender, our Bexley Campus Apprenticeship Recruitment Consultant. She gave me some great tips and made me aware of all the potential interview pitfalls.

“Two weeks later, I received the email I’d been waiting for, I’d been selected for an interview. “Following my interview, I was asked to attend a day’s work trial in their HQ in Erith. That was a real eye-opener and a great experience.

“Needless to say, I was ecstatic when they called and offered me the job. In fact, I haven’t stopped smiling since. I start my job next week and I will also be attending the College once every fortnight to continue with my education and training in September.

Dylan’s tutor Eric says: “I was confident Dylan would do very well throughout the selection process; he is such a hardworking, punctual and eager student. All of the superb work he has put in to achieving his qualification this past academic year just had to pay off.”
